Principal

The principal is responsible for the overall management of their school site. The principal drives all academic initiatives and manages staff to create a strong school culture. The principal also oversees professional development of the instructional and culture staff and builds a school family that values parents and community members.


Assistant Principal of Instruction

The Assistant Principal of instruction works to ensure that every student reaches ambitious achievement goals for school-wide levels of mastery. He or she directly manages the implementation of the curriculum, analyzes data to inform teaching practices, and manages all instructional initiatives.


Assistant Principal of School Culture

The Assistant Principal of School Culture is a visionary leader who drives a participatory, achievement-focused, and outcomes-driven school culture. The AP of School Culture leads a team of deans in supporting teachers in classroom management, creating and overseeing extracurricular activities that bridge school culture with academics, and fostering a high level of parental and community involvement.


Assistant Principal of Operations

The Assistant Principal of Operations designs and maintains smooth and efficient school-based systems and is responsible for all non-instructional services required to run the school. The Assistant Principal of Operations manages the day-to-day school financial operations, prepares the school campus for its founding year and each subsequent year, and administers critical data systems.


Assistant Principal – Specialized Services

The Assistant Principal of Specialized Services systematically identifies barriers to student achievement and creates strategic interventions to limit these barriers. The AP of Specialized Services seeks and develops the resources and tools necessary to make dramatic academic gains with our special needs students. The AP of Specialized Services ensures that the Individual Education Plans of all students are designed with the specific strategies needed to result in successful student outcomes.


Deans of School Culture

Deans of School Culture are responsible for ensuring that the school is a safe and positive community. Deans develop incentive systems, build relationships with students’ families and monitor attendance and school climate initiatives. Deans ensure that all students are proactively making the right choices and provide students with the ongoing mentorship and direction they need to successfully navigate their educational experience.


Instructional Coaches

Instructional coaches work closely with school leaders to ensure effective instruction in all Mastery classrooms. Coaches drive instructional excellence and manage a cohort of teachers across multiple campuses. Teacher coaches are instrumental in driving the growth and development of our instructional staff.


Social Worker

Social Workers are directly responsible for improving the academic and behavioral performance of the school’s at-risk students through counseling, home visits, direct intervention, and teacher consultation, as well as being responsible for providing services for students in need of immediate intervention.

The Apprentice School Leader Program is a highly selective one-year residency for future Mastery leaders to grow, plan and learn as they prepare to lead a Mastery school. ASLs are placed in existing Mastery schools and are integral members of the school community. ASLs drive achievement in their host schools and participate in leadership seminars throughout the year.


The ASL program is founded on three guiding principles:

1) Year-long immersion placement in one of our current schools will prepare you to lead. The ASL works as an integral member of the leadership team. The ASL has clear and significant responsibilities and drives towards achievement metrics in his/her host school.


2) ) In-depth, experience-based management training will give you the tools to drive results.The ASL program links the everyday lessons learned in schools with high-impact management training. ASLs participate in workshops designed to build execution management skills, organizational communication, and problem-solving skills.


3) Intensive support and planning time will set your team up for success. ASLs receive intensive support from Regional Directors and consult with Mastery turnaround experts to prepare themselves for permanent placement at an existing or new turnaround school. ASLs charged with opening a new turnaround schools spend April through August creating school mission metrics, building instructional and operational teams, deepening relationships with school families and community members, and preparing their building facilities for the upcoming year.


Each year, the Apprentice School Leader Program selects the most talented developing leaders for the following positions:

• Apprentice School Leader- Instruction

• Apprentice School Leader- Culture

• Apprentice School Leader- Operations

• Apprentice School Leader- Specialized Services

The College Initiatives Team supports Mastery’s critical mission of ensuring that all students are prepared to succeed in higher education and the global economy. Each Mastery secondary school has a full College Initiatives team, comprised of a College Advisor and an Internship Coordinator.


Through direct instruction and real-world opportunities, these school leaders help build student skill-sets, broaden their post-secondary horizons, and provide critical experiences and information needed for application and matriculation to college. The teams are data-driven to demonstrate progress towards the goal of college acceptance, matriculation, and graduation.


College Initiatives Positions

College Advisor

The College Advisor is directly responsible for the college application process as well as the successful transition to college of all students from his/her campus. The College Advisor works with students, staff, and administration to create and manage College Completion Culture, facilitate college visits and interviews, and provide financial aid/scholarship opportunities. The College Advisor is responsible for teaching all Senior Seminar courses, and for managing the Senior Project program from launch to completion.

 

Internship Coordinator

The Internship Coordinator is directly responsible for creating and managing all aspects of the Internship Program at his/her respective campus. S/he ensures students’ success during their internship experience through mentor accrual, mentor and student training, student placement at a site connected to college and career goals, and progress monitoring throughout the internship placement. The Internship Coordinator is responsible for teaching all Sophomore Seminar courses, and for managing the Exhibition Night project from launch to completion.
